How to connect Nomni POS with Table Ordering

Table Ordering app (2nd generation)

Quick answer: Put the Table Ordering iPad and the Master POS iPad on the same network. On the Master, note the Device Address in Settings > Connection. On the Table Ordering iPad, tap DISCOVER or enter the address and tap CONNECT, then turn on the connection on the Master. If you change your Master iPad, re-point every Table Ordering iPad to it once.

This article is for venues using the Table Ordering app on iPad with Nomni POS.

Before you start

  • Both iPads must be on the same Wi-Fi network.

  • On the Table Ordering iPad, turn off Private Wi-Fi Address and Limit IP Address Tracking for that network (iPad Settings > Wi-Fi > tap ⓘ next to the network).

  • On your Master POS iPad, go to Settings > Connection and note the Device Address.

Connect via discovery

  1. Make sure both iPads are on the same network.

  2. On the Master POS iPad, go to Settings > Connection. Note the Device Address.

  3. On the Table Ordering iPad, open the Table Ordering app.

  4. Tap DISCOVER.

  5. In the list of devices on your network, pick the one that matches your Master's Device Address.

Connect by entering the IP address

If the Master doesn't show up in discovery:

  1. Tap outside the discovery popup to close it.

  2. Enter the Master's Device Address in the IP Address field.

  3. Tap CONNECT.

  4. On the Master, check Table Ordering shows under Client List on the Connection screen, with a green Wi-Fi icon.

  5. Turn on the toggle to enable the connection.

Disconnect Table Ordering from the POS

  1. In the Table Ordering app, tap Powered by Nomni POS in the top-right corner.

  2. Under Connection, tap DISCONNECT.

What you should see: the Table Ordering app goes back to the connection screen, and the Master removes Table Ordering from its Client List.

Changed your Master iPad?

The Table Ordering app always tries to reconnect to the last Master it used. If you replace your Master iPad, or make a different iPad the Master, the table iPads won't find the new one by themselves. Re-point each one once.

On the new Master iPad:

  1. Go to Settings > Connection and check it shows as MASTER.

  2. Note its Device Address.

  3. Tap RESTART SERVER.

  4. Under Client List, remove any old Table Ordering entries left from the old setup.

On each Table Ordering iPad:

  1. Check it's on the same Wi-Fi as the new Master, with Private Wi-Fi Address and Limit IP Address Tracking off.

  2. Open the Table Ordering app. If it shows a popup trying to reconnect, tap outside it to close it.

  3. Enter the new Master's Device Address in the IP Address field and tap CONNECT. You can also tap DISCOVER and pick the new Master.

Back on the new Master:

  1. Under Client List, turn on the toggle next to Table Ordering.

  2. Tap Sync All Clients.

Don't delete and reinstall the Table Ordering app to fix this. Reinstalling wipes the table setup and the app's PIN.

Tip: ask whoever looks after your router to reserve the Master's IP address (a DHCP reservation). Then its Device Address won't change after a restart, and table iPads keep finding it.

When it's working: The Master shows Table Ordering under Client List with a green Wi-Fi icon and the toggle on, and orders from the table iPads reach the POS.

If something goes wrong

  • The Master doesn't appear in DISCOVER: check both iPads are on the same network (not a guest or 2.4/5 GHz split network), then connect by entering the IP address.

  • CONNECT fails: check the Device Address on the Master again. It can change after a router or iPad restart.

  • The table iPad keeps trying the old Master: follow Changed your Master iPad? above.

  • The Master shows "Device limit exceeded": remove extra devices from the Client List, or contact us to update your subscription.

  • Still not working: contact us with your venue name, which iPad is the Master, the Table Ordering app version and what you've tried.
